Here is an excerpt from Madi's blog about her school trips the last two weeks. She likes to give every detail, so its pretty long, but its fun to read about it from her perspective. So if your interested, here's Madi:
I went on two overnight field trips in two weeks. One for being on Safety Patrol, and one for the 5th graders. For Safety Patrol I went to Wisconsin Dells. Dad came along and chaperoned. We left early, and after a 2 1/2 hour drive, we stopped at a huge McDonalds to get breakfast. They had a huge fireplace inside with dead animals hanging around it. I liked the raccoon on the ceiling. He was running away with a McDonalds cup. Next, we went on a boat tour. The scenery was beautiful, but my favorite was the rock that looked like a face. Finally we got to the Mt.Olympus water/theme park. My favorite roller coaster was called Oopa. It reminded me of the Ragin Cajun at 6 flags. Then we went on the go carts. Dad knocked me out of the ring, and a french lady tried to help me, but I couldnt understand her. We went on the bumper cars like 50 times. Mine was green (my favorite color), and number 9 (my favorite number). It was my baby. Then we went on a race with a steep hill, that was a body slide. We went to Dinner to Culvers, and then went to the Tommy Bartlet water ski show. We were there for like 3 hours, but the show was only an hour long. The other 2 hours, people were buying things. Then we checked into our hotel at Best Western. We were supposed to go to sleep right away, but instead we threw a tennis ball at the ceiling, because the boys in the room above us were loud...Dad.
Day 2: We started with another McDonalds breakfast, then went to a car show. Glad I wasnt in my principals group, because he went to every car and gave a lecture. Dad saw our boredom, and took us all to go play freeze tag instead. He's the best. Next up was miniature golfing. It was a pretty cool coarse. After every round, Dad let us do one round of speed golf, and then onto the next hole. Then we went to another place where there were water boats, and we all played bumper boats on them. We had lunch from Subway at a picnic table and then went to Alligator Alcove to watch Alligators eat live mice. My friend Anna bought a mouse and the worker threw it right in front of our face and we watched three small Alligators rip it from limb to limb. After the Alligators, we started on our long journey back home.
For our 5th grade trip, we went on a two day trip to Camp Timber Lee. Here is the website where you can learn more about it. http://www.timber-lee.com/
When we first got there, we got to go horseback riding. My horses name was Dusty. We went on a long path through the woods, and made it back to the coral an hour later. Then we had lunch, and the food there was actually very good. Better than the schools. Then we walked all the way to the leather making shop. I enjoyed it. We got to use a hammer and a nail to make a bracelet and a bookmark. Then we walked to the blacksmith where we learned about lots of different metals. It was boring, and there was no escape! Then we had dinner of Lasagna, that didnt even look or taste like Moms lasagna. It was disgusting. I didnt even know it was lasagna until I asked the lady in front of me what it was. Then we were off to Animal Encounters, where I got to hold giant snakes, chinchillas, birds, bunnies, lizards and turtles. Afterwards, we went to a game show activity where we watched the teachers play charades. It was actually quite funny. My teams name was the notatious knights. Then we walked all the way back by the horses and had a big bonfire. There was lots of crazy songs sang that night. When we got back to our cabin, I saw a mouse in the bathroom, spiders everywhere and mysteriously got ink all over our hands. I slept pretty well though, because I got the bottom bunk.
In the morning, it was raining and gloomy. We walked to the high ropes for our first activity. I really wanted to go on the, but it was thundering too close, so they wouldnt let us. Instead, we had to do team builders inside...ughh. After we waited out the storm pretty much, we walked all the way back past the high ropes, and to the rock wall higher than our house. I got to the top 3 times, and made it to the top and back down before the first guy even made it to the top. Then we had a very long lesson about canoeing and were out on our own in a canoe on a lake. I was in the front with the difficult job of being the motor. Then we dragged our canoes back to the shore, and trudged back to the buses. I fell asleep on the way home, and found mom in the parking lot. My adventure was over.

funny that the adventure ended when she found mom.
Overnight field trips! Yikes, I am so not ready for that. It was fun to read Madi's own words about her experience though. She seems to have inherited her momma's story telling ability. Fun post! Alyssa may be begging to do Saftely Patrol if she finds out a trip to the Dells is part of the deal, or maybe only your school uses that as a reward? How fun!
Julie, its statewide for the safety patrols. Atleast Ryan said there were a lot of safety patrols from other districts. They only spent about 5 hours at the actual waterpark though. The rest was all that other stuff. I dont know if that will still interest her or not. It is scary to send her overnight. Thats why Ryan chaperoned for the one. Shes getting all grown up though, gotta let her go sometime.
Correction:Ryan went because he thought it would be fun. I suggested he go to watch over Madi. Guess he wasnt as concerned about it as me! (:
WoW Madi did so many things.
Neat she climbed that wall 3 times and was holding that snake with no problem. Neat that she likes the color green and favorite number is nine. Ryan sounded like he was a hoot. She is such an active lady and describes things very well too. :) love GmaT.
